Lunsford Information

Broward County has implemented a new process and guidelines regarding the fingerprinting requirements needed to comply with the Jessica Lunsford act. The BFOA recommends that all first time officials make arrangements to get fingerprinted as soon as possible.

Returning members that have been fingerprinted in the past are advised to POSTPONE renewing their fingerprints
until further notice.

FHSAA Registration

All BFOA members must also register with the Florida High School Athletic Association. The FHSAA deadline to register is fast approaching. Officials must register with the FHSAA by
August 6th to avoid paying a $50 fine. Use the following links:

NFHS Rule Changes

The NFHS has announced 12 rule changes for the 2010 season.

Highlighted by new directives on how to handle potential concussions ... any player who shows signs, symptoms or behaviors associated with a concussion must be removed from the game and shall not return to play until cleared by
an appropriate health-care professional.

BFOA Members Respond To Gulf Oil Spill

BFOA members Bill Hanlon and Ken Jones have been conspicuously absent this past month, at BFOA meetings and
functions. That is because Ken is a regular Coast Guardsman on assignment in Louisiana, and Bill volunteered to work
in the Gulf of Mexico on the oil spill as part of the Coast Guard Auxiliary response to the disaster. Bill and, Ken are
shown in the New York Times video below as Ken leads a morning status meeting.
