2. Those present: Larry
Simpson, Kelvin Williams, Guy Taglienti, Steve Epstein, Roy
Getzoff, John Craven, Vince Mundo, Tom Zace, Tom Winston, and
Tommy James.
3. Secretary James read the
minutes of the Feb. 19 Board meeting.
4. Tag reported that as of
March 10, we have $3,085.37. $540 of that amount was proceeds from
our Field Clinic last year. It was decided to disburse that
amount by reimbursing the out-of-county clinicians that
participated in the clinic their $40 registration fee, and that
our 21 local clinicians would be paid $16 each.
5. Vince said that after
meeting with Don Cifra that he agreed to move two Friday-night
games to Thursday.
6. Vince said that there are
currently 20 plus varsity games scheduled per week so the 16 crews
will work one game every week, and approximately 5 crews will have
an extra game in any given week.
7. Vince admonished us about
RECRUITING officials from other associations.
8. Vince said that 6
additional officials (John De Christopher, John Ferrelli, Derrick
Harris, Steven Jeremia, Marc Rodwell, and Anthony Smith) have met
the criteria and will become varsity officials this year, which will give us
approximately 90
varsity eligible officials. Vince also suggested 6 additional
names which he recommends the Board approve to be put on the
Varsity list to provide additional flexibility in creating the 16
crews needed this season (a total pool of approximately 96
officials to choose 80 officials from).
9. There was a long
discussion as to which officials deserved to be among the 96
varsity officials.
10. It was decided that ALL
state and local dues must be paid BEFORE officials are put on the
varsity list, and made eligible for the pick meeting.
11. Information was received
that during a discussion at the Official's Advisory Committee the
FHSAA reiterated that officials must work a position 50% position
of the season in order to work that position during playoffs.
12. Information was received
that Annice Canady, Pete Walker, and Ernest Sellers are currently
prohibited from officiating.
13. We anticipate needing to
appoint 3 - 5 new varsity white hats for the 2003 season.
14. The Board discussed
moving the site of the year-end banquet to Rolling Hills Resort
(now named Grand Oaks). A Luau theme was discussed and more
information will be gathered before making a final determination.
15. The next Board meeting
will be held Wed., April 9th at Grand Oaks Country Club. So the
board can tour the facilities.
16. Roy assigned Tommy James
to head up the Welcoming Committee for new officials.
17. A letter will be put on
the web-site inviting all officials to attend the first general
meeting. Letters will be mailed to officials who don’t have an
email addresses.
18. At the Board's request
Tom Winston is requesting an interpretation from the FHSAA and or
NFHS on the circumstances surrounding the ending of the
Dwyer/Edison playoff game last season. So a definitive
explanation can be made to the membership.
19. Because potential TEACHER
recruits will most likely not be around during the summer, Tom
wants to have the training of teacher officials before the school
year ends. TEACHER training sessions will be held Tommy’s
classroom at South Plantation at 7:00 P.M. on April 22, 24, 29,
May 1,6,8,13, and 15.
20. Steve said that
Huttonhoff will send out a memo to all schools requesting that
teachers interested in officiating attend the training sessions.
21. Meeting was adjourned at
9:31 P.M.
Very truly yours,
Tommy James, Secretary
