-
Meeting began at 7:00 P.M. at Roy’s
office.
-
Board members present were Guy
Taglient, Steve Epstein, John Craven, Vince Mundo, Tom Winston,
Larry Simpson, Tommy James, Roy Getzoff, and Kelvin Williams.
-
Mr. Craven went over the tentative
meeting schedule. Monday, July 5, is a holiday; so the meeting was
changed to July 6.
-
Roy suggested that we require
all white hats to evaluate on Thursdays and Saturdays
when they are not refereeing a game. Vince recommended that
members of the Evaluation Committee not be evaluators. Vince also
recommended that other qualified officials (not just white hats)
evaluate.
-
Roy said that NASO has an
evaluation form that we can get ON-LINE.
-
Roy assigned the following to head
up the following committees:
Evaluations - - John Craven
Assignments - - Larry Simpson
Grievance - - Guy Taglienti
Banquet - - Vince Mundo
Training and Mechanics - - Tommy James
Recruitment - - Steve Epstein
Budget - - Guy Taglienti
Recommendations - - Steve Epstein
-
Tom said that 35 officials scored
under 80 on the 2003 Exam. Tom wants to provide "subject
oriented" diagnostic exams to identify areas of rules
weaknesses, plus have a series of classes that will emphasize
those weak test areas.
-
Various methods were mentioned as
to how to recruit new officials.
-
Tag said that he has sent checks to
post-season playoffs crews, evaluators, and hospitality crews.
-
Each Hospitality crew was given $30
to buy food for visiting playoff crews to Broward County.
-
At the Public Advisory meeting in
January, Steve asked Dr. Stewart (who has replaced Ron Allen):
(1) If the state could pay for more than one-car travel fee when
six to eight officials make up a crew. (2) Steve mentioned to Dr.
Stewart that the tri-county (Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach)
officials are blocked out from officiating 5A- and 6-A state
series games. (3) Steve asked Dr. Stewart if regular season game
fees will be increased. (4) Steve requested that a playoff
official be allowed to work more than once a team that he has
worked during the post season playoffs. (5) Steve asked that all
playoff assignments (throughout the state) be publicized .
(6) Steve suggested that Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach
associations take turns hosting the field clinic, but that
representatives from each county participate in the clinic, and
(7) Dade reps want a broken white line, two yards off the sideline
to serve as a restraining line around the field.
-
Roy and Vince had a meeting with
Rocky and Damian. The BCAA has promised not to have more than 14
BCAA games on a Friday night. There was a discussion
about field equipment at the fields, putting white lines on the
playing field, better line-to-gain equipment, having a 5-man crew
on certain JV games, increasing travel fee from $6 to $10. Varsity
game fee will be $70 for the 2004 season, and JV will pay $60
if travel fees are increased. Finally, security at game
sites was discussed.
-
Meeting was adjourned at 8:31 P.M.
Very truly yours,
Tommy James, Secretary |
