January Board Meeting -
2005
The meeting was held at Tommy James’s house.
Members present: John
Craven, Brian Baker, Steve Epstein, Roy Getzoff, Tommy James,
Vince Mundo, Larry Simpson, Tye Sager, and Tom Winston.
John presented the
tentative meeting schedule for our association.
The Feb. 9 Board meeting
will be held at Tye Sager’s house. The Mar. 9 Board meeting will
be held at Roy Getzoff’s house.
Tom has scheduled training
sessions for newer officials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning
on April 19 for five weeks.
Since our football grease
board (which costs $350) was trashed by the custodians at
South Plantation, we are going to invest in a power-point machine.
Roy will ask Damian if he will help to defray the cost.
Twenty people (half of
whom were guests) who said they were going to attend our last
November banquet, did not attend. That cost our association $600 ($30x20).
Roy said that he would admonish them and possibly make them prepay
if they want to attend the 2005 banquet.
Insurance for officials
was discussed, but nothing was set in stone.
The BFOA is a subset of
the BCAA. The BFOA is not sanctioned by the FHSAA.
We do not qualify as a non-profit organization with
the state.
The BFOA theme for 2005
will be ACCOUNTABILITY.
Tom disclosed to us that
he will be undergoing an operation on both of his hips, and his
status as a referee for the 2005 season is questionable.
Various methods of
recruiting new officials were discussed.
Roy wants Tom and Vince to
get apprentices who will be ready to take over their jobs.
There were only eleven
officials out of all our officials who scored less than 70 on the
2004 football exam.
The Board decided
(unanimously) that for the 2005 Pick Meeting, white hats will NOT
be able to keep (i.e. freeze) any official who was on their 2004
crew.
The following will be the
Board liaisons of the following:
EVALUATIONS = Steve
Epstein
MECHANICS = Tommy James
RECOMMENDATIONS = John Craven
GRIEVANCES = Tye Sager
TRAINING = Brian Baker
ASSIGNMENTS = Brian Baker
The fees (as of this
writing) for a 2005 varsity game will be $66.00 ($60 for
working game + $6 for travel).
There was discussion about
the security we receive at the various venues we work.
The high school football
schedules will be issued by the BCAA by March 31, 2005. Hopefully,
the schools will schedule more Thursday night games, which will
help us to service the games.
After more than two hours,
our meeting ended.
Tommy James, Secretary
