April Board Meeting -
2005
Meeting was held at Tommy James’ house.
Members present: Bryan Baker, John Craven, Steve Epstein, Roy
Getzoff, Tommy James, Vince Mundo, Larry Simpson, and Tom Winston.
Guest: Bryan Davis
Larry suggested
that we send the amended Constitution and By-Laws to Gary Piggot.
Bryan Davis
recommended Pembroke Lakes Country Club for our November 2005
Banquet and Board accepted the recommendation. Cost will be
$27.00 per official. The bar-tender fee was waved.
John presented
the 2004 evaluation of the referees only. The Board
agreed that it was unfair to penalize an official who was not
evaluated during the 2004 season, so the 85% evaluations ( that
was agreed to at the March 9 meeting) was rescinded.
Therefore, the last evaluation an official received would be
included in his 2004 evaluation.
The Board voted to give Steve Epstein the authority to remove a
member of any committee if that person is derelict
in performing his duties.
Steve Epstein,
Rico Feliciano, Tommy James, and Roosevelt Young were at Lockhart
Stadium on Saturday, April 9, recruiting new officials. A "You-Make-the-Call"
video was shown to people who might be interested in becoming
officials. Recruiters from Dade and Palm Beach were also there.
Roy reported on the OAC
Meeting. Topics covered included:
1. Communication of rule interpretations
statewide on the Website.
2. Using local officials as auxiliary
personnel during post-season games.
3. Seven-man crews beginning with the
Quarter Finals for the 2005 playoffs.
4. State evaluations of officials during
Playoffs.
5. Establishing a no-man zone completely
around field.
Steve explained what will take place on the June 13 kickoff
meeting at the Dolphin training site, such as having a guest
speaker. Also, if an official registers On-line, he will save
himself $10.00. An official will only receive his Rule books
if he fills out the application and pays his dues.
The July 18 meeting has been moved up to Monday, June 27.
Vince advised that the BCAA will pay officials from one central
accounting officie beginning this year instead of being paid by
each individual school.
Vince talked
about officials who might not officiate during the 2005 season.
Vince will schedule all three-year and a couple of high potential
two-year officials to be evaluated during our Spring games.
Of the 16 white hats, not one has indicated he does not
want to be a white hat in the 2005 season.
Bryan Baker
distributed a spread sheet showing expenditures and revenues for
year 2004. Vince said we will probably have around 150 members for
the 2005 season. Membership dues will be $45.00 per official.
Bryan said (as of this writing) that we have about $1,700
in the bank.
Steve suggested that we present a Power-Point presentation to
Damien and Rocky concerning our association’s needs. Steve wants
us to film selected games and use them as a teaching tool at our
meetings. Steve said Rocky wants us to present a Rules Clinic to
the coaches in late July. Host schools should maintain fields +
field markings and keep them in good condition. Dade will
experiment with the 2-yard restraining line around the field.
The 2005 Rules Clinic (for coaches + officials) will be
conducted by Tom Winston and Tommy James. Gary Piggot will not be
coming to Ft. Lauderdale.
Meeting ended at
9:14 P.M.
