May Board Meeting -
2005
Meeting was held at John Craven’s house.
Members present: Bryan Baker, John Craven, Steve Epstein, Roy
Getzoff, Tommy James, Vince Mundo, Tye Sager, Larry Simpson, and
Tom Winston.
Tommy read the MINUTES of our April 13 meeting.
Bryan presented (1) the BFOA 2004 Income/Expense Statement, (2)
the BFOA 2005 Budget, and (3) Ways to Increase Net Income During
the 2005 Season, such as increase our membership, decrease
miscellaneous expenses, and not providing gifts to memberships. As
of this writing, we have $1,713.14 in the bank.
Steve and John explained that under the current
Evaluations procedure, a black hat who scored a 75 on the 2004
Football Exam received 0 points toward his ranking. Some
Board members feel that it’s unfair to give points to officials
who were picked ahead of other officials during the 2004 Pick
meeting. Steve suggested that on a Thursday or Saturday night game
we send two evaluators instead of just one.
The Board decided that the
LJ will always be located at the goal post for field
goals and extra points. Also, on flare passes, the side official
who is facing the flare pass will punch
forward or backward to sell the call because
of the new rule that only one forward
pass may be thrown.
Jeremy Shamash presented
his views on how the mentorees (1-and 2-year
officials) should be mentored during the upcoming season.
Tom showed us the list of
all the officials who attended the ten training
sessions at South Plantation, indicating each official’s
attendance record.
John made a recommendation
that ALL BFOA members be instructed to select the closed book exam
option when registering this year. By doing so they will
remain eligible for playoff assignments. Board members
unanimously voted to accept the recommendation.
The 2005 football Exam
will be given at South Plantation in the auditorium on Monday,
August 22.
Steve went over the agenda
for our June 13 general meeting at the Dolphin’s Complex. No rule
books will be given out at this meeting. Al Riveron (the NFL
official from Dade County) will be the guest speaker. Pete
Newton and Rocky Gillis will also attend.
Tom informed the Board
that his recovery from hip replacement surgery is progressing as
expected and he anticipates he will be able to officiate. He
will make a final determination prior to the August 7th crew pick
meeting.
Tom announced that Tommy
James, and Bryan Baker will assist him as Rules Interpreter for
the 2005 season.
Vince announced that Tye
Sager will assist him with the assignment process during the 2005
season. Tye will assign and oversee the JV schedule.
Vince shared a "vision" in which he visualized utilizing the
Cypress Bay High facility and adjoining Vista Park to host a
Spring FHSAA Field Clinic next year featuring 8 teams playing
Spring games on 4 adjoining fields simultaneously in order to
provide field work for attendees.
Meeting ended at
9:15 P.M.
